McGhee Tyson Airport hosts rare WWII aircraft, cockpit tours and optional flight experiences this weekend |

A Rare Flying Piece of History
Two historic World War II-era aircraft are scheduled to visit Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport October 29 through November 1.
The B-29 Superfortress DOC is one of only two remaining airworthy B-29 bombers, while the P-51 Mustang Gunfighter represents another celebrated chapter of American aviation history.
The History Restored Tour offers opportunities to see the aircraft up close and learn from the crews and volunteers who preserve them.
When and Where
The public event is located at 2323 West General Aviation Drive in Louisville, near McGhee Tyson Airport.
Ground and cockpit access is scheduled Thursday and Friday, October 29–30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the final tour ticket sold at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, October 31–November 1, public access is scheduled from noon until 4:30 p.m., again with the final ticket sold at 3:30 p.m.
Admission and Experiences
Ramp and cockpit admission is listed at $10 per person or $20 per family, with tickets available at the gate.
Separate, higher-priced flight experiences aboard the historic aircraft may be offered by advance reservation.
Visitors can expect photo opportunities, walk-through access to DOC and conversations about the aircraft's wartime roles and restoration.
Plan Before You Go
Aircraft schedules can change because of maintenance, weather and flight operations.
