A Decision Still Taking Shape

Residents have through Monday, November 2, to submit written feedback on draft redevelopment proposals for Knoxville Municipal Golf Course.

The course at 3925 Schaad Road is being considered for a new recreational destination that could include a redesigned public golf course, a multi-field sports complex and some supporting commercial uses.

The city, Knox County, Knoxville-Knox County Sports Authority and Visit Knoxville are participating in the planning process, but no final redevelopment plan has been approved.

What Happened This Month

A public review draft of the request for proposals was released October 15.

Officials held a listening session October 22 and a Sports Authority public hearing October 27 to hear perspectives from golfers, sports organizations, nearby residents and others.

The public discussion has reflected both concerns about protecting affordable public golf and demand for additional sports fields for activities such as soccer, lacrosse and flag football.

How to Make Your Voice Heard

Written comments on the draft request for proposals are due November 2.

The official Knoxville Municipal Golf Course Redevelopment page on Visit Knoxville includes the proposed timeline, documents and public feedback information.

Comments should be submitted through the published process before the deadline, rather than assuming the earlier hearing was the only opportunity.

What Happens Next

The proposed schedule calls for publication of a public comment summary November 6 and consideration of a final request for proposals in mid-November.

The draft timeline anticipates a November 16 release of the final request, a January 22, 2027 proposal deadline and public review of proposed concepts in early 2027.

Those milestones are tentative and may change.

The question for Knoxville is not simply whether the course stays or goes, but how public recreation, affordability, field demand and surrounding neighborhood needs are balanced.

Residents interested in the outcome still have time to be part of that conversation.
