Tennessee hosts Auburn Saturday as Neyland Stadium celebrates 100 years of Gen. Neyland’s legacy. |

Neyland Stadium will have a little extra history behind it Saturday when Tennessee welcomes Auburn to Knoxville for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
The matchup will serve as Tennessee’s Neyland Legacy game, marking 100 years since Gen. Robert Neyland began his first season as the Volunteers’ head coach in 1926. Tennessee will recognize that history throughout the day, including with special Smokey Grey uniforms featuring details inspired by Neyland’s era and military service.
The game is also part of Champions Weekend, with Tennessee recognizing championship teams and individual athletes from 1976 through 2016. Recent Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame inductees are also scheduled to be honored.
For fans heading downtown or toward campus, the biggest advice is to plan ahead.
Neyland Stadium gates open at 1 p.m., while Volunteer Village opens at noon on the Humanities Plaza. The traditional Vol Walk begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Pride of the Southland Band’s march toward the stadium at 1:50 p.m.
Traffic restrictions around campus begin much earlier. Peyton Manning Pass and portions of Phillip Fulmer Way will close to vehicle traffic beginning at 5 a.m., and UT is encouraging fans who do not already have a campus parking pass to avoid driving into the campus corridor.
One alternative is to park downtown and take a Knoxville Area Transit shuttle. Game-day shuttles are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. from the Civic Coliseum, Market Square/Krutch Park and the Old City. Regular KAT routes can also take fans toward Cumberland Avenue.
Drivers should also expect altered traffic patterns after the game as officials work to move vehicles away from campus. Some roads and parking areas will temporarily direct traffic differently than on a normal day.
For those watching from home, the Tennessee-Auburn game will air nationally on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
Tennessee vs. Auburn For anyone heading toward downtown Knoxville Saturday, the takeaway is simple: expect a busy afternoon, arrive early and have your parking or shuttle plan figured out before you leave home. |
